Guest Post: 3 Exquisite ways to manage money to stay away from debt

Frugality is not being cheap at all. If you’re smart with your money, you can be frugal in your life. Frugality can help you save for the future and also get debt relief with minimal effort. You just need to curb your spending spree so that you can lead this life and manage your money well. You can also teach your kids about money management so that you can start this trend from the very beginning. Your family members will also be able to help you manage your money and be happy in your life.

3 Ways to smartly handle your money
Being money smart comes with habit and practice. If you can inculcate in you the habit of saving money and being smart with it, you can be assured that you’ll never fall into debts or financial hardship. Take a look at the ways you can be money smart in your life:

1. Take advantage of discounts and deals
If you want, you can lead a frugal life at every step. If you have the need to buy new clothes or things, you can get them at stores that give good deals and offers. You must buy at discounts so that you can save quite a lot of money. If you need to buy gifts, you can do that from these stores. There are great stores such as “Wal-Mart” or “One Dollar Shop” where you get things at really less prices. The products that you get are great for decorating your house as well as can also prove to be very useful.

2. Creating things for you and others
This is another way you can manage to be smart with your finances. You can make table cloths and curtains as per your style and also save money in the process. There are a lot of things you can do with a sewing machine if you want. You may also make clothes to wear at home for your kids and you and that can really save a lot of money. The money you save can go into paying your debts. You can also create cleaning agents at home with the help of lime juice, baking powder and other things.

You can keep the solutions at your place so that you can use it anytime you want. Lemons are really very good agents that remove stubborn stains off carpets and your clothes. You can also make things for others and gift them on their special occasions.

3. Library membership for books and DVDs
You can become a member of a library and rent books and DVDs to watch at home. You may also ask your children to be the members as it’ll inculcate a good habit of reading and they’ll also do better in their studies. If you wait for sometime, you may get the DVDs of the new movies and watch them with your family. You not only save the money of the theaters but also enjoy the movies. You may also rent these movies when you organize a party or get-together at your place. These will help you understand the importance of savings and you can also have the time to enjoy with your family members. You can also cut the cable connection at home and rent movies to have fun. During the summer days, you can have barbecues in your yard or go to beaches to pass good time with your family. During the winter days, try to have get-togethers so that you can still have fun and not get bored.
So, if you can manage to follow the steps above, you can easily have a great frugal life. Try to pay off your debts and other dues on time so that you can have a good retirement life ahead.

Guest Post-How to Save 50% on Every Restaurant Meal

This is a guest post written by Liz Cutten. Liz manages a newer coupon blog featuring promo codes, hot deals, and so much more!

Going out to eat can be awfully expensive, especially if you have kids.  If you’re like me, you love to save, and since you’re on a coupon site right now, I wanted to give you some great tips on how you can save some killer money, no matter where you eat out.  I wanted to give you some cool pointers that I use that allow me to save a ton of money!

#1 – Kids Eat Free

There are countless restaurants out there that allow your kids to eat free.  If you have children that are 12, and under, I always recommend that you head out to a place that allows you to have your kids to eat for free.  Do a Google search for “Kids Eat Free Restaurants”, and you’ll get an endless list of ideas.

#2 – Restaurant.com is GOLD

If you haven’t heard of this website yet, I highly recommend it.  You can find little Mom and Pop shops, and sometimes corporate places in your area that are willing to give you gift cards for next to nothing.  For example, there’s a little Mexican restaurant on the corner of my street.  I was able to get a $10 gift card for $1.20!  If you’re going to purchase from this site, make sure that you read the fine print with the restaurants, and also make sure that you search for coupon codes before you buy from them!

#3 – eBay!

I love eBay for just about anything.  I can find coupons, gift cards at a discount, and so much more.  Think of some of your favorite restaurants, and check what’s available on eBay.  For example, a few months ago, I was able to snag 6 free appetizers to Outback Steakhouse.  I only had to pay $3.39 for 6.  If I would have bought 6 appetizers, this would have set me back at least $40-50.  It never hurts to check, because you never know what you can find!

#4 – Free stuff via e-mail

Just about every restaurant out there has an e-mail club.  Did you know that you can get free stuff just for signing up?  I’ve done this countless times for just about every restaurant imaginable.  For example, you can get a free appetizer at Texas Roadhouse for signing up, and other places offer Buy One, Get One free, and more!

#5 – Do a simple search

In this technological age, you can soon find out that there are countless printable coupons out there that you can grab right from your computer.  If you want to eat out at Chili’s tonight, do a search online, and see what comes up.  I just did it, and found that I could get free chips and queso for giving them my e-mail.  Sounds like a good enough deal to me!

#6 – Entertainment book

The last thing that I will recommend is the Entertainment book.  I love this book, and every year I honestly save $100s.  Just this year alone, I’ve save $55.  I know, I’m a nerd for keeping track, but I want to make sure that it’s worth it.  In my neighborhood alone, there are hundreds of restaurants that I can head to and use buy one, get one free, and more!

I can almost guarantee you that if you work hard, and use these tips, you’ll be able to save a fortune the next time you go out, and eat.  Sure, it’s going to take some planning, but you will soon find out that it will be well worth it!

5 Money Saving Tips You Never Thought Of

Since I am on vacation this week, I have asked a few people to help me out by guest blogging. I was fortunate to receive this article from Owen Smith, a personal finance writer with over 15 years experience.

We all know a few money-saving tips, like budgeting and using discount vouchers to get money off shopping – but these are the obvious ones.

How many of us are actually aware of the ‘other’ money-saving tips that people put in place? I know I wasn’t until I discovered them, so here is a list of 5 money-saving tips you never thought of.

1. Stop Smoking

It’s a known fact that millions of people smoke. Not just in America, but in all countries around the world. It is believed smoking ‘started’ around 1000 BC, when people started using tobacco leaves to smoke and chew. Not many Americans know this, but it was brought into the States by native Americans centuries before records were kept, and has continued to grow in popularity ever since.

As well as not being aware of the history of tobacco, many of us fail to realize the cost of it too. The average cost of a pack of cigarettes now stands at around $7.00, so if you smoke, you could be spending as much as $2,555 a year on your cigarettes (based on 1 pack a day).

So, if you quit smoking, you could save over $2,500 a year – that’s a saving of more than $25,000 over 10 years!

2. Cut your family’s hair at home

Ever wondered how much it costs each year to have your family’s hair cut at a professional salon? Let’s assume you have a family of four – and let’s say the average cost of a cut is around $12, so that’s $48 a month (assuming their hair is cut once a month) – which adds up to $576 a year.

If you were to cut everyone’s hair at home, you would save yourself that $576 – which could either be used for something else (put towards your groceries, for example), or used to pay off debts, or put away in a savings account.

The only investment you will need to make is buying a hair-cutting set – which should set you back just $40 (maybe $90 for a ‘professional’ one).

3. Do It Yourself (DIY)

Say the average American spends around $25 a month on hiring people to do handy work (repairs, instalment fees, small home renovations, etc.). This adds up to $300 a year – an amount you could save if you ‘do it yourself’.

The internet is scattered with ‘how-to guides’ that will help you learn the ‘tricks of the trade’ to do everything yourself. That extra $300 could come in handy, and could be put towards other expenses.

However, you can’t always repair everything yourself – so for things like your gas, boiler, air con and electricity, you should always hire a professional worker.

4. Don’t buy things you can make yourself

Ever bought your own ice cubes? Or bought a pre-prepared cake? Just think about how much money you could save by making these things yourself.

For example, for ice cubes, simply freeze some water in a rubber mould, and for cakes, just search the internet for recipes.

There is no need to waste your money on things you can make at home, so become more creative and save more money.

5. Borrow from your friends

If you regularly rent DVDs, or regularly go out to the theater to watch the latest box-office hit, you could be wasting a lot of money.

Instead, the next time you invite your friends round, why not ask them to bring a DVD you’ve never seen before? It will save you money in gas driving to the rental store/theater, save you the cost of renting and save you the cost of movie snacks like popcorn.

If you want to have a movie snack, you can make your own for a fraction of the price charged in rental stores and cinemas.

There are many more things you can do to reduce your spending and stay away from debt, it just takes a little imagination! (for more information about debt, click here)
