Last month I joined a new rewards site called SuperPoints. I like to try sites out before sharing them so I can see for myself if they are worth the time. In the last month I have earned over 700 points (500 points will get you a $5 gift card). It doesn’t seem like a lot, but I did not do much to get the points.

I really enjoy SuperPoints. It has been very fun and easy to use the site. My whole family has gotten involved. My daughter really loves using the SuperLucky button to try to win points. I like that you can cash your points out for cash through Paypal. It is also nice to use them to get gift cards. They make great FREE gifts.

How can you earn Superpoints?

SuperLucky Button- Simple click the button and see if you win a prize. The amount of clicks you get each day depends on your member level. Gold members and above win when their friends win.
SuperLucky E-mails- You will receive a daily e-mail with the amount of SuperPoints you have won. Just click on the e-mail to receive your points.
Complete Surveys- SuperPoints will e-mail surveys to you. If completed you will earn SuperPoints.
Complete Offers- There are tons of offers to complete to earn SuperPoints. There are some free offers but the majority are paid offers.
Watch Videos- You can watch videos to earn SuperPoints.
Invite Friends- You will earn 25 points when your friends join SuperPoints. You can increase your member lever by inviting friends. As a gold member you will get points when your friends win points on the SuperLucky button and when they complete surveys.

Tips to get the most out of SuperPoints-

Make sure to complete the sign up process and profile information so you can become a basic member.
Invite your friends. You really want to get at least 2 friends to sign up to become a Gold member. But try to get 5 so you can become Platinum and get better perks. Also encourage your friends to complete their profile to become a basic member so you will receive your 25 points and they will count towards increasing your member level.
Open all your e-mails. The points inside can really add up and it is so easy to do.
Try to click the SuperLucky button each day. This is not something I always remember to do but I try to. I have won between 1 and 50 SuperPoints. You can do your clicks throughout the day or have your kids do it. My daughter Emma Loves clicking the button!

How do you get started?

SuperPoints uses the money they would pay on advertising to pay their members more. Therefor you need to be invited by a member in order to join. Each member is given a certain amount of invites depending on their member level. Once the invite is used or expires you will receive a new invite. I currently have 15 invites available. Get Started Blogging- Week #2 Do Your Research

If you have just joined in on the blogging series, you can go HERE to catch up.

So you decided to start a blog. The first and most important decision after making this commitment is what are you going to write about? You don’t have to be an expert on the subject you just have to have passion for it. You need to enjoy reading about your subject and have the desire to write about it regularly. I would also suggest that you check out the article “The Importance of Choosing a Niche Topic for a Money Making Blog“.

Once you decide on a topic or niche, start researching it. Do a search for blogs with your same topic. If you enjoy what they are writing then add it to your Google Reader. If you don’t have a Google Reader yet, you can set up a free account. If you subscribe to blogs through your Google Reader then as they post new content it will go directly there.

I would add at least 50 different blogs to your Reader. This will help give you an idea of what other bloggers are writing about, give you more knowledge on your subject and also give you lots of ideas to write about.

You obviously will not copy what another blogger has written, but you can always link back to another site in your article as an example or an article for them to read. Make sure to always give credit to other bloggers work. You never want to just copy and paste another bloggers work either unless you have direct permission from them.

The one thing you don’t want to do while reading other blogs is to compare yourself to them. Especially if they have been around for a while and are very successful. This would always discourage me. Instead look at them for inspiration.

Get Started Blogging- Week #1 Choosing To Blog

I have been contacted by many people asking for help starting a blog. So I decided to do a series on Blogging. I will be adding a new post every Monday with homework for you to do during the week. This 12 week series will walk you through setting up a blog, how to get traffic to your blog and how to make money from your blog.

With kids starting back at school, this seems like a great time to get started with blogging. I started this blog in 2009 without any knowledge or experience. I have learned a lot but it took me a lot of time to search things out and find the answers I was looking for. I hope I can provide a one stop source for all your blogging needs.

Week #1

The two questions I always get from people is “How much will it cost?” and “How much can I make?”. I will attempt to answer these questions first.

How Much Will It Cost?

Blog Hosting- You can get a free blog through sites like Blogger or WordPress, but I would not recommend this if you are serious about making money from your blog. You can get a self hosted blog for as little as $10 a month.

*If you have a blog through blogger and would like to switch to WordPress- Blogelina can do the transfer for you.

Blog Domain- If you choose a self hosted blog, you will then have to get your own domain name. You can get your domain for around $10 a year.

*We will talk more about these later.

Advertising- You can pay to advertise your site on other sites. The fee varies between sites. This would be an option only if you choose. There are various free ways to advertise your site that we will also be discussing later.

As you can see, you can get started for less then $20. There are always coupon codes out there to help you save off your initial payment and also plans were you can save if you pay up front for the year or more.

How Much Will I Make?

This is a much more difficult question to answer. Yes, you can make money from your blog. You can do this by using affiliate sites, pay per click sites, advertising on your blog and selling products. The amount you will make can vary greatly from site to site. Traffic plays a huge part in the amount you can make. Obviously the more people that sees your blog the better chances you have of making money from them directly or indirectly.

There are blogs out there that are making hundreds or even thousands a month. However, according to a survey done in 2008 on ProBlogger, more then half of the bloggers say they make less then $99 a month.

Other factors that affect the amount of money you make are the time you spend on your blog and networking, your blog topic or niche, your content and your experience. Therefore, it is impossible and would be immoral of me to tell you that you will make a certain amount of money.

The best recommendation I can give is not to get into blogging for the money. I started my blog to share my savings with others and to try to help them do the same. I didn’t even know that I could make money from my blog at that time. The money I make from it is a bonus.

If your focus is to just to make money, then blogging will be more of a chore and your readers will feel that. If you have passion about what you are writing about, people will come back to read some more. So you want to focus on writing good content and let the money come naturally.

This Weeks Homework:

This week I just want you to give some thought about blogging.

~Is this something you would enjoy to do?

~Do you have the time to blog? You will want to write at least 3-4 post a week, sometimes more depending on your topic.

~What is your reason to start a blog? Is your reason strong enough to keep you going? There is nothing worse then blogs that posts are always started with, “Sorry I haven’t posted lately….”.

#1 Choose your niche. What’s your blog going to be about? You may want to do a bit of keyword research here. If you already have a business, then your blog will be related to your online business and those keywords, however, you can still narrow your blog niche.

For example, if you have an online business on dog training, your blog could be about positive reinforcement training, about housebreaking, or even about a tangent topic like feeding your dog – because health is important to training.

#2 Choose your platform. WordPress, Blogger, Typepad and Moveable type are only a few of the options. You can also explore the blogging platform your website host offers. Analyze and compare each platform to find the one that best meets your needs. Many people choose WordPress because of its easy to use nature and the ability to customize your blog.

#3 Create your blog site. Depending on the platform you’re using you will either be working with the template and customizations offered or you can have your blog site designed by a professional. There are thousands of templates, some paid and some free, available by WordPress developers and they’re easily customizable – you can get an original WordPress blog.

#4 Choose your blogging schedule and blog. How often are you going to blog? Create a realistic schedule and stick to it. Remember that even if you decide you’re going to blog once a week, you can always blog more. Blogging less than that isn’t recommended. Blogs are active sites and people expect frequent content updates.

#5 Drive traffic. Once you feel comfortable with the number of posts you have on your blog and you’re happy with the way it looks, it’s time to drive traffic to your blog. Social networking, PPC, registering your blog with relevant directories and commenting on other related blogs helps drive traffic.

Save More At The Grocery Store

I recently read an article that stated that the poor do not use coupons, the rich do. At first this seemed crazy to me, but the more I thought about it the more it made sense.

I began to remember back to when we first needed to cut our spending. My husband was out of work after a stroke and I just had my daughter. Back then I would shop at discount stores like Aldi’s. I purchased store name products and prepackaged or frozen meals. A lot of items I just did without. I believed that I could not afford brand names or fresh meats and vegetables. We did save some money but it just was not enough.

Once I started to get into using coupons more and deal shopping I started going to the major grocery stores and drug stores. I began buying brand name items and purchasing fresh vegetables and the best from the meat department. We began eating a lot healthier but I also was spending a lot less money.

How is that possible?

Simply put, sales plus coupons equals huge savings!

I have completely changed the way I shop. The biggest impact has been on household items like cleaning supplies, paper products, beauty & personal products. I get these items at the drug stores now when they are free or close to it. I stock up when ever possible to make sure I do not run out and have to pay full price. This has really taken a huge chunk out of my monthly budget.

When at the grocery store, I only shop the perimeter of the store. I purchase fruits that are in season and at lower prices. When I find a good sale on meats I will stock up and freeze it. Usually anything under $1.99 a pound is good. I also look for value packs. By purchasing larger portions you can get a price break.

When ever I go down an aisle it is with a purpose. That is when I am purchasing items that are on sale and with coupons. Once again I am usually getting these items free or close to it and stocking up. The goal is to never run out of these items before they are on sale again.

The largest savings I find is on Catalina Promotions or instant savings when purchasing multiple items. When these deals are done properly you can save a whole lot and even at times make money.

I wish I had these skills when we were hurting financially. Even though we may be doing better now I will never go back to shopping full price. By saving on our monthly expenses it allows us to indulge a bit in other areas. It is nice not to have such a tight budget.

It is really amazing how much savings are out there if you take the time to look. Manufactures are always offering promotions to get people to try their products and stores are offering sales to get you to shop. By combining these two together you can really save a lot of money. It is just crazy not to take advantage of this.

Thinking back to the article about the rich using coupons it makes me wonder if they are rich because of it. People who are rich are rich because they are good with their money. There is a lot of money that can be saved by shopping smarter. Not paying full price for items and using coupons is a good start.
